C de Santiago day 13 and 14....

20th August

Carrion to Sahagun, 40km in 7 and three quarter hours.

1st 17km was terrible ! One long stretch, nothing to look at, just terrible ! No stops, no cafes, no nothing ......

Breakfast was at the end of the 17km and very welcome ! Met a Canadian chap who had walked the trail before and he said it was the worst on the whole walk. The rest of the day wasn´t nearly as bad.

Picked up Garrett at the breakfast spot, again, having set off an hour before us and having gone the wrong way for 3kms..........

Not alot to Sahagun, had a walk around.

The Albergue is a private one with a snoring room !! There are a lot of new Albergues, ones not mentioned in the guide book - you wouldn´t recognise a lot of them Jim, they´re springing up all over the place !!

Dad - Kristie used the first aid bag ........... good job I brought it along !

21st August

Sahagun to Mansilla de las Mulas, 38.5km in 7 and 3/4 hours.

Not a good day really. We set off about 7am, the first 5km were nice, then the rest of the day could have been either along a road for 30 odd km or take an alternative route, but slightly longer. We took the alternative route, another long straight road with not a lot on it. Not a lot of facilities.

Nicole flew home today, Chrisite is still with us but Garrett had a bad night and so may catch us up later.

When we arrived at the only Albergue in Mansilla de las Mulas we were amazed to find it almost full already - that´s the first time we´ve found this ! We ended up with bunks in separate rooms. The Albergue wasn´t nice either, but the town has little else so no choice really. Best bit is now we have a short 20km walk into Leon in the morning.

It´s very cold in the mornings at the moment, I´m glad I have my new sweatshirt ! My walking trousers had a new ventilation shaft added to them today as well - just ripped right open when I sat down this afternoon !

Kristie and I having some light refreshment
